Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act

What is WIOA?

Regional Communities Service Center (RCSC) operates an extensive system of workforce programs to assist individuals in obtaining and retaining employment. These programs are operated through the various NC Works Career Centers within each county as well as the NEXTGEN Youth Centers within each county.

President Obama signed the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) into law July 2014. This was the first legislative reform in 15 years of the public workforce system.

The goal of WIOA is to assist job seekers access employment, education, training and support services to succeed in the labor market and to match employers with the skilled workers they need to compete in the global economy.

WIOA was designed to help an individual acquire a combination of basic academic, critical thinking, digital literacy and self-management skills.
